dinner at candle 79

i love candle 79.
like LOVE LOVE LOVE it. a bit fancy for everyday dining, but for special occasions it’s the place to dine for any vegan. so my friend rachel was in town and we always have to try one new place in NYC each visit! so i chose candle 79 because it’s been almost a year since my last visit!

for appetizers we tried the butternut squash raviolis & the onion rings. they were both divine. the butternut squash raviolis are served with whole wheat pasta, sautéed garlic kale, crispy capers, cashew cream. NOM! and the onion rings were served with a chipotle aioli. they were so so so so good.

butternut squash ravioli & onion rings!

keep in mind we were already full from leftovers for breakfast, strawberry cream cheese stuffed french toast for lunch… and now we decide it’s a good idea to order one of everything on the menu (not really but still…). i could have stopped after the appetizers and been happy & full… but no. we continued to eat.

stuffed avocado salad

we split the stuffed avocado salad. SO YUM. LOVE this salad! the stuffed avocado comes with baby greens, quinoa, jicama, cucumber, radishes, cranberry beans, toasted pumpkin seeds, grape tomatoes, chipotle-avocado dressing. YUM YUM YUM YUM!

for entrees rachel had the seitan piccata and i ordered the mustard-ginger grilled tempeh. YUM. both dishes were EXCELLENT. my taste buds were having a party.

the tempeh dish was served with sweet potato purée, sautéed trumpet royale mushrooms, brussels sprouts, lentils, brown rice, sunflower seeds, apple salad, cranberry-chipotle coulis. DELISH!

after finishing the entree i could not move. there was no way i could fit dessert into my belly. so we skipped dessert. i’ve had enough calories to last me another week!

if you haven’t tried candle 79… it’s a must when visiting nyc. treat yourself to a night of fancy & delicious organic vegan food!
