i have a handful of friends from south florida that live in new york city & new jersey… one friend happens to be vegan. to celebrate her one year anniversary of being vegan we decided to meet for dinner in the city! she chose pure food & wine and i was way excited because i’ve never been! all i can say is WOW.
the food was absolutely INCREDIBLE. they really know what they’re doing! no wonder it’s so hard to get a reservation! 😉 it totally reminds me of candle 79… but all raw.
we started with two appetizers. a sushi roll & a “cheese” plate. oh. em. gee. i don’t think i’ve had “wedge” type cheese since going vegan. i have NO CLUE how they make this… but the cheeses were DELISH! the nori rolls had some amazing flavors as well. LOVED both appetizers!
i originally ordered the tacos but our waitress told me she thought i’d enjoy the tamales more. so i went with her suggestion…. and even though both dishes had mushrooms. the tamales were EXCELLENT. every bite was delicious. only one bite i could taste the overwhelming portabella. not too bad. i can do mushrooms as long as they are minced up in other things.
my friend melanie and i shared mostly everything. but dessert?!?!? psssssh. we weren’t sharing dessert. i wanted to try the pumpkin cheesecake because you KNOW i’m a vegan cheesecake connoisseur! but once again i went with our servers recommendation because she was totally right about the entree.
there were two off menu desserts which were both sundaes. one was a banana split type sundae and the other was a mint chocolate sundae. i went with the mint chocolate because it’s my girlfriends favorite. 😉 it was PHENOMENAL. one of the best desserts i’ve EVER had. and i’ve had a lot of dessert in my 32 years on this planet!
even though i have a goal of trying every vegan restaurant in NYC & Brooklyn before i depart from NY… i definitely need to go back to Pure again! totally rawsome! 😉 in fact, i think i’ll go back for my birthday in a few months!!!!
