one year and 10 months in the big apple. many delicious dinners. although i missed all that san francisco had to offer, i continued to figure out my favorites in new york city. most of the time i was pleasantly surprised. new york knows how to do vegan just as delicious as the bay area. *gasp* yes, i’ll admit that new york has some delicious vegan fare. happy? (but oakland, ca knows what’s up!)
my girlfriend arrived late thursday night and although we didn’t do anything fun during the days (hey! i have boxes to pack and a uhaul to fill up) we definitely enjoyed our evenings frolicking around new york city.

caravan of dreams
one of the first vegan restaurants i tried after moving to new york city. i believe candle 79 was the one and only that i’d been to before moving here. caravan of dreams is definitely one of my all time favorites. i love the hippy vibe, the live music and the energy in this place. the menu is always fun and everything i’ve had is pretty delicious. 😀 tonight was no exception.
everything we ate was delicious. i think nikki was pretty impressed. i wasn’t in love with my burrito, but everything else was amazing. we decided to skip dessert and headed down the street for some vegan ice cream…

lula’s sweet apothecary
you all know i just recently tried lula’s for the first time like a week ago. and i’m in love. and sad i’m leaving nyc now. 😦 so since we were on the same block we decided to have some ice cream! 😀 works for me!
i’m pretty sure nikki loved it just as much as i do! she ended up with a soft serve ice cream because the regular ice cream flavors have coconut and she is sensitive to coconut. i’m going to miss this place like woah.

pure food and wine
so the first time i dined here i absolutely loved every bite. this time. eh. not so much. i think i would have enjoyed candle 79 better this particular night….. we ordered pear raviolis and assorted nut cheeses for appetizers. the nut cheeses were definitely the star of the show. YUM. i must learn how to make these myself! for my entree i got the sunchoke gratin with vanilla poached pear. eh. wasn’t as amazing as last time. and all of the desserts have coconut so nikki couldn’t get the mint sundae i wanted her to try. ECH. okay so i guess every night can’t be a win.
i was hoping for better. the entrees were super small and i left hungry. oh wells. off for some “milk” shakes! 😉

this is the place i first discovered the “chickpea melt”. it’s like a vegan smoothie / juice / sandwich fast food type place. counter service only. everything i’ve tried is awesome! tonight since we already had dinner, we decided to get some butterfinger shakes. YUMMMMM. so we walked to grand central holding hands and enjoying our yummy dessert. perfection!

i don’t think there would be a better way to end my time in new york city than with a dinner at blossom. the original blossom. never disappointing. ever. except the fact that cocoa v is no more… but let’s not harp on the negative. my farewell new york dinner was fantastic. the wine, the appetizers, the entrees and the company! everything was perfect. 😀

truly i didn’t want to try the blossom bakery because i’m still so hurt that they closed cocoa v. but we ventured across the street anyway to check it out. i was not impressed. we ordered some black & white cookies, a butterfly cookie (which was broken into pieces by the time we got home) and 2 cinnamon rolls for breakfast on the road. ugh. i miss cocoa v.
i’ll miss you dearly new york…. keep on being vegan!
