was forced to run some errands this morning (need laundry soap) so i stopped in timeless for another quad almond latte to go. i decided to try something sweet and opted for the vegan version of a twinkie. OH MY SWEET LORD. best thing i’ve ever put in my mouth.
now you know i am a vegan food snob of sorts… i’ve been to pretty much every well known vegan restaurant & bakery between san francisco, new york & south florida. this is now one of my all time favorite baked goods. (perhaps tied with babycakes biscuit with jam) this sweet treat has been the highlight of my trip so far, food wise. GAH. now i want another one. dammit oakland, you’re making me fat.
for lunch i decided to make my former oakland friends jealous and go to souley vegan. i got the southern fried tofu sammy with mustard greens and sweet potato for my sides. NOMMMMM. the food is still amazing. i will always and forever be a huge fan of souley vegan. LOVE IT. i wanted the side sampler (which is a side of everything – and everything is soooooo good) but it takes two people to finish it, so i refrained.
my good pal john picked me up and surprised me with a visit to pixar! i had just finished lunch at souley vegan so i wasn’t hungry for food, but man is pixar awesome! the cafes all have vegan options! so cool.
anyone who knows me well, knows my obsession with all things finding nemo. i was a kid in a candy store. this was better than going to disney for me!
after pixar john drove us up to napa to do a wine tasting at o’brien estate winery. the wine is vegan. no animal products used in their wine making process. YAY. the grounds are absolutely breathtaking. we had a really great time there.
i decided on burma superstar for dinner since john is the opposite of vegan… i didn’t want to subject him to an all vegetable dinner after he spoiled me with pixar & a vegan winery! burma superstar is still going strong… just as busy as they were in 2010. so happy for them. the menu has plenty of veggie options for me and a plethora of meat for the non veggies like john. and the food… it’s outstanding.
the rainbow salad has 4 different noodles, 3 types of onions and 22 ingredients all together – 86 dried shrimp to make it vegan! it’s one of the more popular items on the menu, as it was featured on the food network years ago.
i remember my friend ordered the eggplant the last time i was visiting and i had to try it again. it’s cooked perfectly. the sauce is sweet and spicy. the coconut rice compliments it so well. dinner was fabulous.
what an absolutely fantastic day!!!!!!!
